Morning traffic down Meridian Street Saturday was not caused by cars, but thousands of kids and basketballs.

“This isn’t about punishment, it’s about protection,” IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said.

The fair will run from Friday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 17, and will be closed on Mondays.

The headquarters will be located at the current site of the D-1 field, officials said, south of the Grand Park Event Center on the west side of Grand Park Boulevard.

The celebration starts Thursday, July 10 and runs through Sunday, July 20.

“I know I would be dead if I hadn’t gotten screened,” said Sandra Hall.
